Delhi to get First Restaurant of US Burger Chain Carl’s Jr
It’s good news for Delhi burger lovers. Carl’s Jr, the US burger chain is launching its first restaurant at Select Citywalk Mall, New Delhi on August 8, 2015. This California-based burger giant is the third to enter the Indian market in recent times, following on the footsteps of Burger King and Wendy’s. Carl’s will serve Indian style food along with the regular American style burgers. It will also serve beer, in addition to conventional soft drinks. The restaurant will give a dining experience, coupled with gourmet food and fast food service. Over the next decade the chain plans to open 100 restaurants across India. Carl’s is being brought to India by Cybiz BrightStar Restaurants, which is owned by Cybiz Corp., a Gurgaon based company. Cybiz is planning to raise Rs. 125 crore to scale-up the eating-out market in India.
Sbarro, the US-based Pizza Chain is planning to Increase the Number of Outlets
The US-based pizza chain, Sbarro is aiming to raise the number of stores to 50, over the next 2 years across India, using a number of business models. Sbarro currently has 17 outlets through its 3 franchisee’s – Upper Crust Foods (Maharashtra), Jyoti International Foods (North and East India), and White Planet (South India). Sbarro also has plans to set-up small kiosks, which they’ll call “Pizza by Slice” at malls, tech parks and metro stations, where there are a large number of people at all times. Here, the customers will order a slice of pizza instead of a whole one. Sbarro, which has over 800 outlets spread across 33 countries, is also planning to launch flagship stores and delivery outlets.
Dubai will soon get a Taste of Darjeeling’s Famous Makaibari Tea
Darjeeling’s iconic Makaibari tea is all set to make its foray into the Dubai market. The tea, which costs above 1 lakh per kg will be sold in upmarket stores, where there is demand for premium quality tea. Talks are already on between the company and Dubai’s luxury food chain, Bateel. Although coffee has been a favorite in Dubai, the popularity of tea is on the rise. There is a possibility of a deal being struck between the Makaibari Tea Company and Bateel within a month’s time. The company also has a new portal, where customers can order the finest quality Makaibari tea online. Makaibari tea is also available in the duty free shops at Mumbai international airport. Its packet tea is sold under the brand name “Apoorva”. With orders at a price of Rs. 1.11 lakhs per kg placed by importers in US, UK and Japan last year, the company hopes to sell at similar prices this year too. Makaibari tea estate, located in Kurseong and set-up in 1859, is one of the oldest in the district.
Azure Hospitality Raises Rs. 64 crore from Goldman Sachs
Azure Hospitality, which runs a casual dining chain across Asia under brand name “Mamagoto” has raised approximately Rs. 64 crore from global financial services giant Goldman Sachs to fund its plans for growth and expansion. The company is backed by Blue Sky Capital, a private investment firm based in London. This investment will help to position Azure in the Indian Food & Beverage market. In 2013, Azure launched two QSR brands – Rollmaal, focusing on Indian food; and Speedy Chow, focusing on Chinese food. Arure has 5 outlets each of Rollmaal and Speedy Chow. Under its Mamagoto brand, it has 9 outlets. Since 2010, all three companies have grown revenue over 50% year on year. Azure also has a catering service under the brand “Mamapaati”. With operations in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore, Arure is planning to expand to tier I & II towns in the near future. It is also planning expansion to the UAE within the coming year.
Sumo Sushi & Bento Planning Expansion into India
Sumo Sushi & Bento, which is a franchise chain from the Middle-East and specializing in Japanese food is planning to make inroads into the Indian market through the Master Franchise route. Sumo Sushi & Bento, which has been in operation since 2000, after establishing its foothold in the Middle-East, now wants to widen its horizon in Asia by entering the Indian market. The brand is looking for 3 master franchisees for the North-East, West-Central and South India. The brand is also providing opportunities in particular large cities in various Indian states. The brand is planning on entering India with 100% franchising with Indian investors, with a franchise fee of $20,000 per unit. However, there is no guarantee of Return on Investment (RoI), although Sumo Sushi & Bento forecasts a payback time of 16-18 months, based on its market research.
Cold Stone Creamery ® Set to Expand its Operations into India and Si Lanka
Cold Stone Creamery ® is all set to hit the Indian and Sri Lankan markets by year end. It’s parent company Kahala Brands TM is partnering with Tablez Food Company, part of Lulu Group International, LLC to bring high quality ice creams to these two countries. The first store will open at Lulu Mall in Kochi by end of this year. Over the next 5 years, 40 other stores will open pan India and 5 in Sri Lanka. Tablez Food Company has a strong presence in India and is always on the look-out for new business concepts. Kahala believes that this will be a successful partnership. Tablez Food Company operates a number of Food & Beverage brands in India, Sri Lanka and the UAE. Tablez plans to invest $11-13 million in the Cold Stone Creamery ® business in India and Sri Lanka over the next 5 years. Cold Stone Creamery ®, which opened in 2005 in Tokyo and now has operations in 25 countries, will bring world class ice cream experience to these two countries.
KFC Meals are now available on Indian Rails through its Partnership with IRCTC
From 20th July this year, KFC has started serving meals on Indian railways through its innovative partnership with IRCTC. You can book your KFC meal when you book your tickets through IRCTC. You can also call on 18001034139 (Toll Free) to place your order. Although available on 12 trains passing through New Delhi railway station, the operations will be expanding to Hyderabad, Bangalore and Vishakhapatnam over the next few days. The service is currently available for trains that don’t have a pantry car, but will later be expanded to trains like Rajdhani and Duronto.
