The festival of Diwali is round the corner and FSSAI is all set to step up the surveillance regarding food adulteration. In the wake of representations/inputs from various sources showing concern on sudden spur in adulteration , it has issued a notification on 26 October, 2021 regarding the special drive to check adulteration of sweets, milk and milk products like khoya, paneer etc. amid festive season.
In this reference the FSSAI has requested the Commissioners of Food Safety of all States/UTs, all Central Licensing Authorities and all Regional Directors of the FSSAI to ensure that a strict vigil is maintained in their respective jurisdictions to avoid any laxity on the manufacture and sale of sweets, milk and milk products during the on-going festive season. The FSSAI has exhorted them to conduct periodic surveillance / enforcement drives. Moreover, it has also been suggested to install Food Safety on Wheels (FSW) in prominent markets. The mobile laboratory will be fully equipped for quality testing to detect adulteration of food products in a jiffy.
The idea is to ensure that such products are safe to consume thereby gaining trust of consumers across the country.
The FSSAI has also requested them to share the action taken report on the same with Inoshi Sharma, Executive Director (Regulatory Compliance) by the end of every month.
