Draft Notification on Food Safety and Standards Amendment Regulations 2021

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a draft notification on Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives )Amendment Regulations 2021.

It clarifies the standards for Sheep Milk, Oils, Desiccated Coconut, Wheat Flour or Resultant Wheat Flour, Millets, Mithun (Bos frontalis), limits on reducing sugar in sugarcane jaggery and Palmyrah Jaggery, Refined Iodised Salt, Low Sodium Salt, Dried Sweet Marjoram, Coconut Neera, Liquid Nitrogen dosing in Natural Mineral Water’ and ‘Packaged Drinking Water’, substances added to Food, Microbiological standards etc.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) with the approval of Central government in exercise of the powers under clause (e) of sub section (2) of section 92 with section16 of the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 have made certain amendments in Food Products Standards and Food Additives Regulations 2011. It has been published under sub section (1) of section 92 of the Act.

The draft notification has been issued to inform all the persons likely to be affected from the proposed amendment. It further specifies that the draft regulations should be taken into consideration after the expiry of the period of sixty days

from the date on which the copies of the gazette notification are made available to the public.

Moreover, objections and suggestions sent before the expiry period will be duly considered by FSSAI. These regulations have been named as Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations 2011.
