In reference to the judgement which was issued by FSSAI that all Food Business Operators who have an annual turnover of 12 lacs or more had to submit their annual returns by May 31, 2013, else they have to pay a fine of Rs. 100 per day, FDA has collected a sum of Rs. 17 lacs as penalties paid by FBOs for the delay in submitting records.
Many Food Business Operators were unable to file their annual returns on time as per the regulatory guidelines and they all have to pay penalties. The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has levied penalties as per the new Food Safety & Standards Act under FSSAI which was implemented in August 2011.
As per regulations of the the act, as of now the judgement only applies to Food Manufacturers, Packers & Labellers and traders, distributors & restaurateurs were not asked to file their annual returns by May 31, 2013. As per sources, an amount of 17.82 lacs as the total fine has been collected till date from food business operators and this collection might go up as there are many others who may also be falling behind in meeting deadline.
As per stats, there are more than 9000 food business operators in the city who have their business turnover of more than 12 lacs. The categories of food business operators include – manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, processors, transporters, restaurants, hotels etc.
