Barista Eyeing 500 Stores in Next Three Years
Coffee Chain, Barista is aiming to double its stores to 500 in India in the next three years. Presently Barista has a little over 200 Barista Cafes and Barista Kiosks across the country. Coffee consumption is low in India and Barista hopes to change that and take the opportunity to build more stores. Most of the Barista stores will be opened through the franchise route. The Company is also planning to expand its FMCG outlets to 10, 000 and has also launched chocolates, cookies and coffee powder. The company intends to increase its FMCG profits from the present 5 percent to 12 percent by fiscal 2020. Barista is also keen to expand its footprint to more countries in South Asia and Middle East.
KFC Hands Over 13 More Restaurants to Devyani International
The Yum! Brands-owned KFC is divesting 13 more restaurants to its franchise partner Devyani International of the RJ Corp, keeping in line with its global strategy of reducing ownership of restaurants. KFC prefers to be a brand custodian and push growth in India. Devyani has acquired the brands restaurants in Kerala and Goa. Devyani already has a presence in these two states and the company sees the re-franchising of the restaurants as a good strategy for growth.
KFC has 380 stores in India out of which they own only 20 percent and the rest are franchised by Devyani and Sapphire Foods. Sapphire Foods acquired a part of Yum! Brands franchise business in 2016. The 400 Pizza Hut stores, on the other hand, are all franchised. Devyani is the biggest franchisee of Yum! Brands and they share a common vision for the Company’s growth. Devyani International operates both Pizza Hut and KFC for Yum! Brands and are willing to acquire more KFC stores as and when Yum! Brands decide to franchise them.
Board Approves HUL and GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare Merger
Hindustan Unilever Limited Board has approved the merger with GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare (GSKCH India) through an-all equity deal. The total GSKC business has been valued at Rs.31,700 crore. According to the all-equity deal, 4.39 shares of HUL will be allotted for every one share in GSKCH India. GSKCH sells consumer healthcare products, including popular drink brand Horlicks. Through this strategic merger with GSKCH India, HUL will be able to expand their portfolio and create a new category of catering to the nutritional needs of consumers. The merger includes the totality of operations within GSKCH India, including a consignment selling contract to distribute GSKCH India’s over-the-counter and oral health products in India. The GSKCH India business delivered a total turnover of around Rs.4.200 crore in the year ended March 2018, primarily through its Horlicks and Boost brands. After the acquisition, HUL will become one of the largest Foods and Refreshment (F&R) with a business that will exceed Rs.10,000 crore.
Patanjali Ayurved and Jharkhand Government to Market Organic Products Jointly
Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurved has joined hands with the Jharkhand government to market organic products like honey, wheat, rice and vegetables which come from there. Patanjali Ayurved and the Jharkhand Government will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect. In order to boost organic cultivation in the State Government has planned to build organic production clusters in all the 24 districts of the state. The products will be sold under the ‘Jharkhand Jaivik’ brand name. Besides marketing the products Patanjali will also be setting up a honey processing plant in Jharkhand as part of the MoU.
Zomato to launch OLO and Food Delivery Services in 30 More Cities
Zomato will launch its online ordering (OLO) and food delivery services to 30 more cities after which it will have a presence in a100 cities in the country. Zamato has been surprised by the demand in Tier-II and III cities and is, therefore, expanding to these cities. Some of the new cities they will have a footprint in are Puducherry, Jamshedpur, Ambala, Meerut, Haridwar, Bhavnagar, Ujjain, and Puri. The company’s food delivery services are present in 93 cities and they list over 75,000 restaurants on the platform. Zomato has also hired over 5,000 delivery partners in these new cities, further strengthening it’s 1.5 lakh partners strong last-mile delivery fleet. In India, Zomato has a subscription base of 6,00,000 customers and over 4,000 restaurant partners.
Pizza Hut to Open 200 More Outlets in India By 2022
Yum! Brands owned Pizza Hut plans to open over 200 more outlets in India by 2022 to expand its retail footprint, a top company official said Friday. The company operates 422 stores in India and 500 in the Indian subcontinent. Along with store expansion, the company will focus on their products, innovation and ensure the best pizza experience to their customers. Pizza Hut had expanded their fast-casual delco (FCD) concept earlier and now they have over 58 FCDs across India. The pizza chain runs a franchise model in India and the investments for opening new outlets mainly comes from franchise partners.
