Reliance Starts Jiomart to Sell Grocery Online
Reliance Industries has started a web portal called Jiomart to mark its entry into the online food and grocery shopping by early 2020. The app will connect both last mile neighbourhood stores and consumers by leveraging Reliance’s data and technological of the Reliance’s telecom business Jio, as well as the cash-and-carry infrastructure of its retailing arm. Jiomart will partner with local grocers and equip them with points of sale (PoS) terminals, low interest working capital, inventory management and also GST compliance.
Jiomart with the tagline ‘India ki nayi dukaan’ is already operational in outskirts of Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane and Kalyan. Presently it offers free home delivery, pre-registration discounts and options to buy more than 50,000 grocery products online. Kirana stores are being registered and given POS machines with integrated billing applications.
DrReddy’s Enters India’s Nutrition Segment
Dr Reddy’s Laboratories has entered the nutrition segment with the launch of ‘Celevida’ which is a nutrition drink for diabetics. Celevida will be available in two flavours Kesar Elachi and Chocolate. Celevida is one of a kind productthat has proven to help manage blood glucose levels among patients. Celevida diabetes nutrition drink is formulated in such a way that it contains high protein, high fibre, and slowly digested carbohydrates, which will support the management of postprandial blood glucose response and satiety. Celevida will address the unmet nutrition needs of diabetes patients in India and will have a positive impact on people’s health and quality of life.
Arun Icecreams Unveils Two New Products
Arun Ice creams commemorated the festive season with the launch of two new products – Smiley Bar in two variants of chocolate and butterscotch, and Merry Treat. The Smiley Bar is a smiley-shaped bar. Merry Treat is a kiwi-flavoured ice-cream shaped like a Christmas tree. It also contains little surprises like Chocoflakes and dried blackcurrant fruit.The ice-creams are made with real milk and cream and are priced at Rs.20 each. The products are available in 55ml packs across retail outlets, supermarkets, restaurants and Hatsun Daily outlets in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, Orissa and Chhattisgarh.
Cornitos Launches Roasted Salted Pumpkin Seeds
Another launch in the festive season is from Cornitos, which launched Roasted Salted Pumpkin Seeds. Pumpkin seeds are well known for their health benefits as they contain nutrients that keep the heart healthy by reducing blood pressure and increasing good cholesterol. They are also rich in antioxidants like carotenoids, Vitamin E, and minerals like copper, manganese and zinc, which are a great source of protein. McDonald’s adds Dosa Masala Burger to Menu
McDonald’s has added the Dosa Masala burger to its menu at its outlets across northern and eastern India. The Dosa Masala burger is made with a tasty and spicy grilled vegetable patty flavoured with a mix of Indian spices, exclusively crafted by McDonald’s for its Indian customers. The patty is topped with a tangy rasam sauce for the authentic regional flavour. It is packed into a whole wheat bun topped with black and white sesame seeds. Priced at Rs 59 the new offering is a part of the fast food chain’s all-day menu. After the success of McAloo Tikki this is another option in the vegetarian menu for customers who prefer Indian tastes. McDonald’s had also recently launched its popular breakfast menu in this reason which has been received well. The menu offers a choice of breakfast options such as Veg McMuffin, Egg and Cheese McMuffin, Sausage McMuffin, Egg and Sausage McMuffin, Hot Cakes and Hash Browns, along with coffee and available beverages.

Cremica has launched Opera Cottage Style Potato Crisps in eight flavours – Barbeque, Cheese Jalapeno, Chipotle, Wasabi, Peri, Salt and Pepper, Sriracha and Italian Herbs.

HRAWI conducts FoSTaC programme in Satara
The Hotel and Restaurant Association of Western India (HRAWI), in association with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), conducted a Food Safety Supervisory training in Advance Catering (FoSTaC) programme at the Hotel Jakson Inn in Phaltan, Satara district Maharashtra. At least 36 hospitality professionals in the region were trained and certified. On completing the programme, food handlers working in hotels or restaurants will acquire knowledge about food safety standards. While food handlers may be aware of food safety norms it is equally important for them to have the knowledge about food standards. HRAWI has conducted similar FoSTaC programmes in Aurangabad and Nasik, through which a total of 57 hospitality personnel were trained and certified. Over the last couple of years, the association has successfully been training and certifying hospitality professionals across India’s Western region.
