Mother’s Recipe has marked its entry into international foods with its ‘Desi Szechwan Chutney’, launched under its brand ‘Recipe.’ The product is a perfect blend of spices along with chillies, ginger, garlic and onions. WayCool Foods and IIT-Hyderabad to Develop Packaging Solution that Reduce Food Waste
WayCool Foods has signed a 3-year MoU with IIT Hyderabad (IIT-H) to jointly develop antimicrobial food packaging material by using biopolymers. Biopolymer is an environment friendly food packaging material that will help reduce the carbon footprint related to food packaging. The aim is to develop an economically viable and biodegradable packaging solution that will enhance shelf life and retain the freshness of fruits and vegetables for longer periods and cut down food wastage by up to 20% across the supply chain. WayCool Foods has been actively working towards reducing food wastage on multiple fronts.
The association with IIT Hyderabad to co-develop a sustainable alternate packaging solution will further supplement WayCool Foods’ in-house research and development and innovation efforts. This packing material will help to increase shelf life of mainstream fruits and vegetables such as okra, capsicum, Indian gooseberry, and guava as well as exotic produce such as strawberry and broccoli. The innovative packaging, when developed, is intended to be starkly different from conventional packaging and will help consumers enjoy fresh produce longer. The company will invest close to INR 2 million over a period of 3 years.
Westlife Development to Open 25-30 New McDonald’s Outlets
Westlife Development Ltd, which owns Hardcastle Restaurants, the master franchisee of McDonald’s restaurants for western and southern India, expects to now continue its expansion journey by adding more stores to its network. The company plans to open three new stores in this quarter and then resume its growth story by adding 25-40 stores every year from the next fiscal. Around 60-70 per cent of new stores would come in the six key cities – Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad; and the rest 30 per cent into smaller towns. The company plans to open stores in 2-3 new cities every year.
After COVID-19 consumer confidence has now begun to set in and so the company hopes to exceed pre-COVID-19 levels in the next 2-3 months. The company hopes to continue to grow through its in-store business even though the convenience channels will continue to remain. The need to return to restaurants is picking up and in-store business was almost 85 percent of the pre-COVID-19 in December. Currently, Westlife Development operates 304 McDonald’s stores in 42 cities of the western and southern India.
Grover Zampa Vineyards Launches Riesling Wine as part of Art Collection Range
Grover Zampa Vineyards has launched Riesling wines in its Art Collection range, which makes winemaking a piece of beautiful art as it takes inspiration from artists. There are 8 varietals within this range. Art Collection Riesling is the second new release this year in their most awarded Art Collection range. Grover Zampa is one of the few wineries that make wine with Riesling, which is a grape variety most popular in Germany. The winemaker and viticulturist team have managed to produce a high-quality wine, especially as Riesling is a cool climate and delicate grape variety but it has been complemented by aromas and flavours of Indian terroir.
The pale-yellow wine, with a bright green tint is accentuated with fruity and floral notes of peach, pear, and lime blossoms and complemented with flinty mineral notes. Riesling is a dry wine that is fermented and aged in concrete tanks. Served chilled at 8 – 10°C, it pairs well with Asian and Indian food preparations, seafood such as basa fish, oysters, poultry, and vegetables like eggplants, carrots, bell peppers, and tomato-based dishes. It also goes well with flavoured soft cow’s milk cheese and dried fruit. The wine is priced at around Rs.920 in Mumbai and Pune and Rs.900 in Bengaluru.

Mother Dairy Fruit and Vegetable Private Limited will start 2021 with the launch of 5 new packaged products under the Mother Dairy and Safal brands. Products under the Mother Dairy brand are Mathura Peda, Mewa Atta Laddoo. Products to be launched under the Safal brand are Frozen Drumsticks, Frozen cut Okra and Frozen Haldi Paste Cubes. The new packaged products are being introduced with the objective of offering superior quality, hygienically packed and convenient options to consumers.

Out of The Box Launches Outlet in Connaught Place
Out of the Box (OTB) a renowned and popular restaurant in Khan Market has finally launched another outlet in Connaught Place. Cafe Coffee Day Enters Alliance with London Bubble Co
Café Coffee Day has entered a strategic alliance with premium waffle brand London Bubble Co. (LBC) London Bubble Co will open 150 shop-in-shops in Cafe Coffee Day (CCD) outlets in a bid to generate incremental revenue to enable CCD to ease pressure to repay debts. On the other hand, LBC’s shop-in-shop business model with CCD will enable the waffle brand to scale up its footprint in the country. Cities covered in the strategic alliance with CCD are Agra, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Aurangabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Dobespet, Goa, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mohali, Mumbai, Narsapur, Nasik, Pune, Sanjgaon, Shimla and Thiruvananthapuram.
The alliance is being touted as the largest partnership of its kind in India. The move is expected to revive the three-year old waffle brand and drive growth by 202 per cent by February of 2021. LBC will also have an all-new menu and will serve only oil-free waffles. According to the agreement between the two, the coffee retailer will not be allowed to have a competing portfolio that LBC sells including waffles, chocolates, pre-packed ice-creams and dairy-free milkshakes. In May 2020, CCD entered into a similar contract with Kolkata-headquartered Wow! Momo Foods for selling momos at their cafes to keep business afloat amid the nationwide lockdown.
