
Nestle India to Open New Maggi Plant in Sanand
Nestle India will invest Rs.700 crore in the next two years to set up a new factory in Sanand, Gujarat for manufacturing Maggi noodles. Construction of this ninth plant will commence soon. The facility is in line with their commitment to ‘Make in India’ and will be a significant step in expanding their manufacturing footprint in the country. Another important feature of this plant is that about half of the 400 employees would be women. Nestle India had set up its first facility at Moga in Punjab in 1961 and other plants are in Choladi (Tamil Nadu), Nanjangud (Karnataka), Samalkha (Haryana), Ponda and Bicholim (Goa), Pantnagar (Uttarakhand) and latest manufacturing plant had been set up at Tahliwal (Himachal Pradesh).
Japanese Restaurant Chain Sumo Sushi & Bento to Enter India
Dubai-based Japanese cuisine restaurant chain Sumo Sushi & Bento is planning to foray into India, in partnership with FranGlobal.Sumo Sushi & Bento is a unique family oriented authentic Japanese restaurant.The first restaurant will be set up in Delhi or Mumbai within six months and thereafter, Sumo Sushi & Bento’s is planning to open up to 25 stores in the next five years.They are likely to focus on major urban hubs including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad.
The restaurant chain has planned on entering India as there is now a demand for new and varied cuisine here. There is also a curiosity about Japanese cuisine especially fusion foods. Sumo Sushi & Bento have been in the Middle East for the past 20 years and have a big Indian customer base in Dubai and so they feel India could be scalable market. The restaurant chain caters to the cosmopolitan consumer and offers both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes.

Metro Cash & Carry to Digitise Kirana stores
Wholesale retailer Metro Cash & Carry has announced an initiative that will help kirana shops digitise their business using smartphones.Metro in association with ePayLater has co-created a mobile application ‘Digital Shop’ for this initiative. Metro has announced that digitising the business operations of kirana shops will happen instantly without any additional investment.
The App will enable kirana shop owners to digitally track their daily and monthly sales, manage inventory, place orders with Metro and also pay digitally. It will also provide analytics to kirana owners such as inventory consumption patterns and the fast and slow-moving products that will optimise kirana’s product mix and eventually help in improving their revenues and margins. The Digital Shop initiative is aligned with Government of India’s impetus to digitize small retailers and shopkeepers.Metro Cash & Carry entered the Indian market in 2003 and currently operates 27 wholesale distribution centres.
