Antimicrobial Packaging Market to be a big business
Antimicrobial packaging like plastics, biopolymer, paperboard etc. is projected to grow to USD 10.00 billion by 2021 from the present USD 7.28 billion at a CAGR of 5.54%. The Asia Pacific region is witnessing a growth in the food and beverage industry and this is likely to spur the demand for antimicrobial packaging. Among the various antimicrobial packing materials used plastic is likely to have a major share of the market followed by paper and paperboard followed by biopolymer. Growing concerns about food wastage and consumers awareness of heath related issues are other factors for growth. Besides the food sector there is also a great demand for antimicrobial packaging from the health sector.

MTR Foods to boost production capacity in India
MTR Foods has been growing in popularity among the working segment because of their packaged breakfast mixes which can be prepared in a few minutes. Over the next four to five years, the company is planning to make an investment of Rs.2 billion to increase the production capacity of their Bengaluru facility to 72,000 tonnes from the present 42,000 tonnes. The projected turnover from the increase in capacity is likely to be Rs.20 billion by 2020. MTR Foods realise that unless they increase the capacity they will not be able to grow at a robust space hence they are investing in capacity building. The company manufactures about 140 products which are sold through more than 200,000 outlets across the country, as well as 30 stores abroad. MTR Foods has also recently launched their online platform for customers in Bengaluru.
The pizza, pasta and BBQ sauces market is on a growth trajectory in India
As per ‘Research & Markets’ Report, India is changing rapidly and so are the standards of living. Gujarat Ambuja Exports to set up corn wet milling project in Maharashtra
Agro-processing firm, Gujarat Ambuja Exports will set up a ‘corn wet milling’ project in Dhule district, Maharashtra. The land for the facility has been allocated by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) on a lease basis. The company will set up the Greenfield project with an installed capacity of 1,000 tonnes per day. Gujarat Ambuja Exports is in the process of obtaining statutory approvals and licences for setting up the unit and it is also undertaking negotiations with suppliers for plant and machinery and engineering consultancy services. The Agro processing firm is also involved in businesses like cotton yarn, solvent extraction, maize processing, flour mill and cattle feed.
Amul to raise milk processing capacity to 38 million litres
Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) that sells milk and dairy products under the Amul brand is planning to invest Rs.2, 500 crore to raise its milk processing capacity. There has been an increase in the demand for milk and so the Dairy Major plans to increase the processing capacity to 38 million litres per day in the next four years. Presently the co-operative has a capacity of 28.1 million litres per day. The co-operative is planning to establish new milk processing plants in Kolkata and Mumbai and two more plants in Gujarat. They will also increase the capacity of their existing plants.
The cooperative has about 60 various processing plants, of which 40 are in Gujarat only. About 50 per cent of Amul’s turnover comes from sale of milk while the commodity business contributes 5-7 per cent and the rest comes from value-added products segment. The company has also increased cheese producing capacity three times to 120 tonnes per day to meet the demand for cheese. There are 17 member unions of GCMMF associated with more than 36 lakh farmers across 18,600 villages of Gujarat. The member unions of GCMMF have also established their own milk processing plants in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and Rajasthan and are procuring milk from other states also.
