Early 2017 will see PepsiCo to launch 5 new products
PepsiCo will be launching five new products in early 2017 which will focus on their nutrition and health product portfolio. PepsiCo has been working on developing products that match the Indian food palette and also cover the needs for whole grains and nutrition in the diet. PepsiCo is offering a number of choices to customers in the nutrition backed product categories. Nutrition backed products have been getting a lot of attention and are growing at a fast rate.
PepsiCo hopes to tap into the growth with their offer of new products. PepsiCo has also addressed whole grain needs, fruit and vegetable gaps in Indian diets with healthier breakfast recipes as they have launched new oats flavours Chaat Style and Curry Magic. Oats is a fats growing cereal segment but there are opportunities for further penetration PepsiCo feels. At present the oats market stands at Rs.270 crore but this is only one-third the market so the company will tap further into this cereal segment.
Patanjali gets clearance to invest Rs.2000 crore in UP Food Park
The UP government has approved Patanjali Ayurved setting up a food park in 450 acres of land in Greater Noida. Land has been allocated in the Yamuna Expressway for the Rs.2, 000 crore Food Park and includes an agro-processing plant. The land will be bought by PAL. There is speculation that Patanjali will make an announcement in this regard only after the UP elections. Patanjali officials have however, stated that the process of identifying the land is an advanced state and that the government officials have been have proactive in facilitating the investment.
The Greater Noida Food Park will be an international food park which will cater to overseas markets, besides the domestic market. Once the land has been allocated the food park will become operational within a period to 12 to 18 months. The plant will have the capacity to produce goods worth Rs.25, 000 crore annually and will generate at least 10,000 direct jobs.
Café Delhi Heights to open 11 new outlets
Usha Batra is the lady who introduced the café concept to India and it is her sons who went a step further by opening Café Delhi Heights. The first outlet of the popular café opened at Cross Point Mall, Gurugram and since another eight outlets have opened across Delhi/ NCR. The cafes have been opened keeping the young, global citizens in mind and therefore they keep up with new trends. The new outlets of Café Delhi Heights will be opened after carrying out rigorous research which especially studies and identifies areas where customers will come on a regular basis.
Café Delhi Heights is based on a casual dining concept that serves quality foods for all three generations of customers. Family and friends are comfortable and enjoy both European and Indian cuisine. They cater foods for people of all economic backgrounds, where portions are big and pricing reasonable. By 2017 Café Delhi Heights wish to add another 11 outlets to their existing 9 outlets. They however, are not interested in offering franchise but wish to be a self-owned brand.
Belgian Conference Pears launched in India
Indian fresh fruit importer, IG International has launched Belgian Conference Pears in association with Belgium fruit company, BelOrta. Actor Sonu Sood and Chef Ranveer Brar launched the fruit that will now be available across the country in all retail stores. The fruit can be both crisp as well as soft depending on the ripeness of the fruit. The pear is seedless and has a unique long-necked shape. The water content is enough to quench thirst but the biggest advantage is that it has a long shelf life.
The pear is also ideal for children since it is seedless and has no core. The fruit is in the exotic fruit category but is one of the more affordable fruits in the category. According to data, last year there was 2000 million tonnes of pear consumption in India, so IG International hopes that Indians will take to this fruit in a big way. Belgian Conference Pear is very popular in Europe and BelOrta are confident that Indian consumers will like it as well. BelOrta operates in 22 countries and offers 31 varieties of fruits.
Heritage Fresh ties up with digital payment platform Freecharge
Heritage Fresh, South India’s leading grocery retailer, has tied up with digital platform Freecharge to accept payments in 125 supermarkets of Heritage Fresh in Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Chennai. All customers who have their mobile numbers registered with Freecharge can make e-cash payments at Heritage Fresh and Heritage Mart supermarkets and reduce cash payments. The transaction can be completed within a few seconds and it reduces long queues that cash handling requires. Reduction of cash transactions is also a government objective. Freecharge offers a good user experience and Heritage Fruit is able to extend their reach to more daily users. The alliance speeds up shopping so there is no queuing at the counter.
Parle Products introduces premium chocolate – Friberg
Parle Products Pvt Ltd has forayed into the premium chocolate market with a new brand of chocolates called Friberg. The chocolate will be priced at Rs.350 for 125 gram wafers and 90 gram bars. The chocolates will be imported from Belgium and Switzerland. Parle Products has decided to move into the luxury chocolate space because of consumer preference as consumers are moving away from traditional Indian sweets. Initially the chocolates will be available in metros like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Chennai in select modern trade and top general trade outlets.
