
The FSSAI has been apprised that the Food Safety Officers in certain states are drawing samples of soybean De-oiled cakes/soybean meals which are specifically intended for use in poultry and animal feed.
It has been clarified that the products intended for animal feed do not fall under the definition of ‘Food’ as defined under section 3(1) (j) of FSS Act 2006.
Consequently, the FSSAI has advised the commissioners of food safety of all States / UTs and Central licensing authorities to direct the concerned Food Safety Officers under their jurisdictions to desist from sampling of soybean De-oiled cakes or soybean meals while drawing samples of the products in exercise of powers conferred upon them under section 38 of the Act.
The clarification has been issued with the approval of the Competent Authority.
