
The FSSAI has issued an order dated 8 June, 2021 related to blending of mustard oil for the production of multi-sourced edible vegetable oil. (MSEVOs)
The FSSAI has drawn attention to its order dated 8 March, 2021 wherein FSSAI had issued a Gazette notification on the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Amendment Regulations, 2020 related to prohibition of blending in Mustard Oil for the production of Multi sourced edible vegetable oil with effect from 8 June 2021.
To ensure that the above-mentioned prohibition is effectively enforced across all States and UTs, the FSSAI has requested all the Commissioners of Food Safety of all States and UTs and Central Licensing Authority to carry out inspection drives of all such units, which were hitherto licensed for the production of BEVO/MSEVO. (Here it must be mentioned that in the FSSAI order dated 8 March, 2021 the name Blended Edible Vegetable Oil has been changed to Multi Sourced Edible Vegetable Oil).
The FSSAI has also provided a list of such units which have BEVO as a product licenses as retrieved from FLRS/FoSCoS which is attached to this order. The list has been made according to name of the state, name of the district, license type and license number. This long list can be accessed at page 2 of the following link. FSSAI.GOV.IN. Further, FSSAI states that any other unit which is not inadvertently included in this list, but is involved in the manufacturing of BEVOs, must also be inspected.
The FSSAI has advised physical inspection of such units and the premises of these BEVO must be visited to check whether any prohibited blending of Mustard oil is being carried out after 8 June 2021.
The FSSAI has also requested the Commissioners of Food Safety and Central Licensing Authorities to approach such manufacturers under their jurisdiction that have old licenses having Mustard BEVO as a product and they must advise such manufacturers to get their licenses amended in view of the said prohibition.
