Compliance on Dates for Sweets
Through its notification dated 24 July 2020, the FSSAI has issued directions extending the date for the display of “Date of Manufacturing” and Best before Date” in the case of sweets sold openly in sweet shops. The FSSAI has extended this timeline in view of the disruptions and lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic. The Food Authority has also received representations from sweets associations and stakeholders and therefore it has decided to give a final extension to the date of enforcement for display of “Date of Manufacturing” and “Best before Date” for non-packaged or loose sweets on their containers/trays in various outlets meant for sale to 1 October 2020 from 1 August 2020. The FSSAI has also advised the sweet associations to sensitize and build capacity of their members to implement the order from 1 October 2020.
Commercial feeds/ feed materials intended for meat and milk producing animals
FSSAI has also extended the date with regard to the direction dated 27th January, 2020 regarding compliance of commercial feed intended for cattle with Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) specifications. This order was for compounded feeds for cattle (IS 2052:2009) as amended on the date of enforcement of the direction and for carrying a BIS certification mark on the product label. As per the directions dated 27 January 2020 this was to come into force on 27 July 2020.
However, FSSAI has received representations requesting for further extension of the timeline for compliance on account of the current COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown orders/ restrictions issued by the Central/State governments. After due considerations the FSSAI has decided to extend the timeline for compliance of feeds/feed materials intended for meat and milk producing animals with relevant BIS standards further to 1 January 2021.
