FSSAI has issued an order dated 23 June 2021 regarding relaxations that the FSSAI had provided to the Food Business Operators (FBOs) during the COVID-19 conditions that had prevailed in the country. This order is for all Food Business operators, Food Safety Mitra and other stakeholders, Commissioners of Food Safety of all States/UTs and Directors of Regional Offices of the FSSAI.
In this regard, the FSSAI has also drawn reference to its previous order dated 20 April, 2021 through which the Apex Regulator had given some relaxation in certain areas of operations, to the FBOs because of the COVID-19 condition.
In this new order dated 23 June 2021, the FSSAI has stated that the following relaxations that had been granted previously to the Food Business Operators shall cease with effect from 30 June, 2021.
- Permission to temporarily operate food business (other than Manufacturers) on the basis of the 17-digit reference number.
- In case of Manufacturers, they are allowed to operate their food business with higher capacity, on the basis of modification of License.
- Limited inspections and e-inspections are allowed
However, in view of the prevailing operational issues, The FSSAI has decided to extend the relaxation to 31 August, 2021 for the following provisions
- Extension of the timeline for submission of online Annual Returns through FoSCoS
- Waiver of late fee for renewing the license
The FSSAI has also directed all Licensing Authorities to widely publicise the online submission of Annual Return mandatorily through FoSCoS (https://foscos.fssai.gov.in)
And they may also initiate necessary action against defaulter food businesses after the last date of submission.
