Mr Pawan Agarwal, CEO FSSAI, launched Chef Varun Inamdar’s book titled ‘Mindful Eating’ at the Eat Right Mela organised by NetProFaN, Mumbai Chapter & AFST Mumbai. The book has been specialised commissioned for FSSAI’s ‘Eat Right India Movement’ and has recipes that will encourage people to become fitter and healthier.
Food is an essential part of health and an unhealthy diet can become a risk factor for several lifestyle diseases. Diet-related illnesses are more serious and the book ‘Mindful Eating’ will help people to pay attention to the foods that they eat, when they eat and how they eat. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) people’s diets have become less healthy than they were about 15 years back.
In order to improve public health and combat lifestyle diseases the FSSAI launched the
‘The Eat Right Movement’ last year. This movement is based on two broad pillars ‘Eat Healthy’ and ‘Eat Safe’, which would result in better health and wellbeing. Eat healthy means reducing salt, sugar and fat and eating a balanced diet. Eat safe means adopting practices where food is prepared safely and in hygienic conditions and making sure to read label information and avoid adulterated foods by buying from licensed vendors. The FSSAI led Eat Right India movement focuses on empowering citizens to make the right food choices. It also encourages food businesses to reformulate products for healthy eating, provide better nutritional information to consumers and make investments in healthy food as responsible food businesses.
Chef Varun Inamdar is, one of the TOP 10 celebrity chefs in India and “Eat Right India” goodwill ambassador.Chef Varun Inamdar has cooked for Barack Obama, Nicholas Sarkozy, Vladimir Putin and many other famous personalities of the world. He has contributed to the ‘Eat Right India’ by creating this cookbook which would help people to take steps towards making right food choices and cooking foods that would lead them towards better fitness.
The recipes in ‘Mindful Eating’ have been carefully curated by Chef Varun Inamdar so that they demonstrate what healthy recipes are all about. The book will help people to identify recipes for healthy eating. With the launch of this book the FSSAI has added another feather in the cap that will take the Eat Right Movement to a new level.
