Diet-related illnesses are more serious and the book ‘Mindful Eating’ will help people to pay attention to the foods that they eat, when they eat and how they eat. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) people’s diets have become less healthy than they were about 15 years back.
In order to improve public health and combat lifestyle diseases the FSSAI launched the
‘The Eat Right Movement’ last year. This movement is based on two broad pillars ‘Eat Healthy’ and ‘Eat Safe’, which would result in better health and wellbeing. Eat healthy means reducing salt, sugar and fat and eating a balanced diet. Eat safe means adopting practices where food is prepared safely and in hygienic conditions and making sure to read label information and avoid adulterated foods by buying from licensed vendors. The FSSAI led Eat Right India movement focuses on empowering citizens to make the right food choices. It also encourages food businesses to reformulate products for healthy eating, provide better nutritional information to consumers and make investments in healthy food as responsible food businesses.
