The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has announced the mandatory linkage of Permanent Account Number (PAN) with FSSAI licenses and registrations. This decision aligns with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade’s (DPIIT) recommendation to establish PAN as a universal business identity. The new requirement will take effect from October 22, 2024, through the Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS) portal.
Key Guidelines for Food Business Operators (FBOs)
- PAN Mandatory for New Applications and Renewals
- PAN details must be provided when applying for new FSSAI licenses or registrations.
- The requirement also applies to license/registration renewals and modifications through the FoSCoS portal.
- Updates for Existing FBOs
- Licensed or registered FBOs whose renewal or modification is not immediately due should update their PAN details in the User Profile Section on the FoSCoS portal at the earliest.
- For FBOs applying for registrations without a PAN, a declaration must be submitted indicating non-possession of PAN.
- Contact Information Update
- FBOs are advised to ensure their contact details, including email IDs and mobile numbers, are up-to-date in the FoSCoS user profile. This will enable seamless communication from FSSAI regarding updates and notifications.
Compliance Timeline
The mandatory PAN requirement will streamline processes and enhance transparency within the food business ecosystem. FBOs are encouraged to comply promptly to avoid any disruptions in their operations.
This directive has been issued with the approval of the Competent Authority.
