The FSSAI has issued a Revised Direction to its previous direction dated 10 February 2020 regarding operationalisation of Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Amendment Regulations, 2020 and Food Safety and Standards (Food Products and Food Additives) Amendment Regulations, 2020 relating to limit of naturally occurring formaldehyde in fresh water and marine fish.
The FSSAI had operationalised the provision of these regulations with immediate effect but had directed that the enforcement of these regulations shall commence after the six months from the date of issuance of the direction dated 10 February 2020.
However, on 12 February 2020, the FSSAI has made a revision to the earlier directions and has decided to enforce the regulations with immediate effect along with the provisions of the regulations. As regards Schedule 4 requirements, mentioned in the regulation on limit of naturally occurring formaldehyde in fresh water and marine fish, the revised FSSAI Direction states that if required, Improvement Notice under Section 32 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 may be issued to the Food Business Operators and accordingly FBOs can take action for compliance of these requirements.
