Question: If we manufacture any type of cheese, Is there any requirement as per FSSAI for minimum % of cheese in the product?
Answer: As per the Food Safety & Standards Act, Rules & Regulations, the standards have been given for various types of cheese. Question: In food category, the dairy based desserts, Allura Red AC is permitted up to 300 ppm. Why so much higher allowance for this coloring matter in dairy based desserts while tartrazine is allowed up to 100 ppm only in the same food category?
Answer: No, the regulation mentions 100 ppm. However, the permissible quantity of any additive is decided depending upon its tolerance limits, toxicity & GMP requirements not otherwise. You can further check for more details on the following link:
Question: We do import of food products in bulk and then do the repacking in retail packs. Is it mandatory to mention the country of origin in the retail packs or is it sufficient to have the country of origin at the time of import in the bulk packs. Kindly clarify?
Answer: Yes, the country of origin needs to be mentioned on the label of a food product. However, as per FSS (Packaging & Labelling) Regulations, 2011; if the food undergoes processing in the second country and which changes its nature, then the country in which the food undergoes for further processing would have to be considered as a country of origin for the purpose of labeling.
Question: Can we mentioned on the label of a food product like “pure cholocate” or “Pure milk”
Answer: May be on a single ingredient food, you can write but not on a combination of two food ingredients.
Question: We are instant tea premix manufacture which comes under proprietary food category, as per FSSAI rules please let us know which are the applicable Indian standards or test methods for proprietary food?

Answer: The FSSAI has recently introduced the amendment to the FSS (Food Products Standards & Food Additives) Regulations, 2011 where the regulation no. 3.1 which discusses about the substances added to food have been substituted by a recent amendment.
