Question: There is no clarity on what date has to be printed on food packets . For example Aavin milk packets (Govt Of Tamilnadu) are sold only with manufacturing date. Their curd sold only with best before date. Private manufacturer sell milk with best before date only. It is misleading to Consumers. Palani temple sell Panchaamirtrham (A fruit product ) without any dates. What does the rule say?
Answer: In case if the shelf life of the food product is less than 7 days then Use By Date has to be given on the label of the food product and the manufacturing date is not required to be given. The regulations further state; if the food product has a short shelf life of less than three months, the date, month and year in which the commodity is manufactured or prepared or pre-packed shall be mentioned on the label.
If Palani temple sells pre-packaged food then the labelling guidelines will also apply to such food product.

Question: Is it mandatory to mentioned the FSSAI License number on sales invoice document?
Answer: Food Safety Regulations state that a food business activity shall be carried out between a registered/licensed buyer & seller only. So, you have to make sure that you are buying from & selling to the registered FBOs only. Keeping this in mind, it will be good if FSSAI license number is mentioned, though it is not specifically mentioned that it is a mandatory requirement but Form of Guarantee (Form E) says that it is a requirement under the Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006. (see regulation 2.1.14 (2).
