WENDY’S MAKES DEBUT IN INDIA
Wendy’s, American QSR chain, made its debut in India under Sierra Nevada Restaurants Pvt. Ltd as its franchisee. With its first outlet at Gurgaon, Sierra Nevada plans to open three more outlets in Delhi/NCR during this summer months and up to a score in North India over the next few years.
After a continuous team work, the Wendy’s and the Sierra Nevada have customised its menu, restaurant design to meet the expectations of Indian consumers. The world’s third largest quick service hamburger chain is optimistic about serving the Indian consumers’ needs and earning their loyalty.
SAMI Direct Introduces Saberry Drink Mix
One of India’s fastest growing direct selling companies, SAMI Direct has introduced a natural refreshing health drink, Saberry® Drink Mix. SAMI Direct is a subsidiary of Sami Group.
The drink contains original fruit flavours with no added sugar or preservative. It has been approved by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). Key ingredients in the health drink comprise of Emblica Officinalis Fruit Extract (Saberry®), Beet Root Extract (Sabeet™), Garcinia Cambogia Fruit Extract (Citrin® K), Vitamin B12 and Moringa Oleifera Leaf Extract (Moringin™). The fruit flavours include apple, banana, pineapple, pomegranate, jamun, cranberry, grape and orange.
‘BLACK BURGERS’ HIT INDIAN MARKET
South Africa based fast-food restaurant chain Barcelos launched black burgers in the Indian capital. Barcelos has only one outlet in the country at Khan Market. The SA based chain has used red, yellow and blue food colours in appropriate proportions to create the dark snack.
US fast-food giant, Burger King was the first to launch black burgers in Japan in 2012 but that was for a limited time. It was re-launched by the same company in 2013 and in the year ahead the company launched its Kuro Range (Kuro means black in Japanese). At the same time when Burger King launched its dark fantasy in Japan, McDonald’s also launched its black version of burgers. While Burger King used bamboo charcoal to darken the burgers, rival McDonald’s used squid ink.
Parle counts on premium biscuit brands to step-up revenue growth
One of the major confectionery brands in India, Parle Products has been targeting to gather more revenues from its premium biscuit brands in the next couple of years as the demand for the mass-based category is declining.
With 35 per cent stake in the total of Rs. 25,000-crore biscuit market in the country, Parle is looking forward to attain 15 per cent growth in the turnover of premium biscuits segment, which is currently 10 per cent. Its major premium brands include Milano, Simply Good, Happy Happy and Hide and Seek while the mass brands are Parle G, Parle Marie, KrackJack and Monaco.
Hello Curry to expand Pan-India; opens two units at Bengaluru
Hyderabad based food-tech start-up, Hello Curry, has been planning to expand its business around the country. Recently, the company made its entry into Bengaluru opening two outlets at Ulsoor and Sahakaranagar. The food chain claimed to grow pan India within 18-24 months and aspires to become number one home delivery brand in the country. It has bagged award for best packaging in the country.
Hello Curry is also planning to introduce the light-on-the-purse and right-on-the-diet options titled ‘Weigh and Pay’ in Bengaluru. This would enable one to order exactly what one wants to consume. Initially, biryanis will be offered through ‘Weigh and Pay.’ Customers can choose from nine varieties of biryanis, choose the exact portion size in grams and pay 50 paisa per gram.
CCEA advocates modification in Mega Food Park guidelines for infrastructure
In a bid to approve the modification in Mega Food Park Scheme guidelines for infrastructure development for food processing, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting earlier this week. The committee resolved to give a green signal to the project. Effective implementation of the scheme would be soul aim of the modifications.
The result oriented scheme expects from the Mega Food Parks to generate substantial outcomes. The scheme is expected to benefit 6,000 farmers directly and around 25,000 indirectly. Investment in each project would be estimated at Rs. 100 crore with an annual turnover of Rs. 250 crore. Also each project is expected to set up about 30 food processing units.
