Parag to Expand with Acquisition of Danone Facility in Sonipat
Parag Milk Foods Ltd has recently announced the acquisition of Danone manufacturing facility in Sonipat, Haryana. The acquisition will help the dairy major to expand into the North and North-East regions of India. The company is viewing the acquisition as a strategic investment that will enhance their fresh category distribution in this region and also increase product portfolio as the facility has additional amenities. Currently, products sold in northern India are supplied from their Manchar plant in Maharashtra and the acquisition will bring them closer to the end-consumers. The acquisition of the facility is expected to generate 6 to 7 percent overall revenue and almost 15 percent in the north and northeast region
The manufacturing plant is spread across 5,500 sq. m on the outskirts of Delhi NCR and has come with a cost of Rs.30 crore along with refurbishments. The plant’s current milk processing capacity is 0.75 lakh liter per day along with curd processing capacity of 15 metric tonnes. Parag will use the facility to produce fresh milk and curd and refurbish the manufacturing facility so it can produce pouch milk, flavored milk, pouch buttermilk, cup curd and misthi dahi. Parag will also educate farmers on best practices and help enhance their income. Initially, they will associate with 2,000 farmers to procure cow milk and going forward will include more farmers.
Koldplay Introduces New Flavours and Concepts
Koldplay Ice Creams has introduced new flavors and concepts like ice cream sticks, sugar-free ice cream sticks, sorbet-based coolers, and ice cream towers. The indulgent ice cream towers are made up of scoops of ice creams stacked one over another and fully loaded with a whole lot of favorite toppings such as brownies, candied strawberries, chocolate sauce and rainbow sprinkles. Madagascar brittle ice cream, maghai paan Oh Ferrero! Sundae, magic sundae and shake, OMG! Almond Nutella sundae, Ode to oreo and Ode to Ferrero thick shakes are other items that are expected to delight consumers.
The new flavors introduced include Alphonso mango sorbet and creamy Alphonso mango, lime and lemon sorbet and royal Indian dry-fruit. Ice cream stick flavors include rose, brittle tipped chocolate, and raspberry sorbet. The sugar-free range includes dark chocolate and vanilla pod. Kodplay’s Sippin’ Sorbets will be made with a dash of club soda or water along with the sorbet and will be available in several flavors. Lanson Enters Ready-To-Eat Snacks Segment
Lanson Group has confirmed its entry into ready-to-eat snacks segment in the Indian market with the launch of its B2C brand ‘Popodax’. The group manufactures differently flavored appalams with variants and already exports these to the UK, US, and Australia. Brand Popodax appalams have been launched in India in three flavors Classic, Tomato & Chilli, and Sour Cream & Onion. The products will be available in mom and pop stores, clubs and e-commerce websites such as Amazon from May in packs priced Rs.10 and Rs.30. Lanson makes 1.5 million appalams a day for its global customers. With the vision to provide innovative snacks that will enable consumers to meet their needs, they have decided to launch their brand of ready-to-eat mini appalams in India.
The company also supplies to FMCG brands globally and manufactures variants of the snack in five manufacturing units located in Chennai and Thiruchendur. Therefore, Popodax will initially be available from retail shops by May 2018 in Tamil Nadu markets beginning with Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Salem and Trichy and within six months will reach 50 other towns here and in 20,000 outlets within the first year. With Popodax the company hopes to garner about 2 percent of the ready to eat snack segment.
Foodpanda and PhonePe to Partner to Broaden Digital Payment Portfolio
Online marketplace for food delivery foodpanda has announced that it is partnering with PhonePe to enable seamless digital payments. Through the partnership, consumers will be able to choose from several payment options such as PhonePe Wallet, UPI, Credit and Debit cards to pay for their food orders on foodpanda. With this partnership with foodpanda, PhonePe customers would be able to pay for their food orders faster.
PhonePe is in sync with the country’s digital payment movement and is less time consuming, secured and reliable and foodpanda will take advantage of this. They also plan to enter several other partnerships in the future to create a robust food tech ecosystem for all stakeholders. PhonePe is working to create a smooth and secure payment ecosystem that is conducive to all types of digital transactions. Online food ordering is fast growing and has gained significant popularity among consumers.
