The Government e- Marketplace (GeM portal) is essentially a smart way for procurement of goods and commodities. In the wake of it, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India is ensuring the procurement of laboratory chemicals, glass wares, reagents and other consumables by State Food Testing Laboratories (SFTL’s) only through GeM.
Indeed, it will become a good business opportunity for the vendors and suppliers of chemicals/reagents and consumables etc. Moreover, it will facilitate easy and faster procurement once the vendors/ suppliers register themselves on GeM .
This is why, FSSAI has requested the concerned vendors/ suppliers to list their chemicals related to food testing and other consumables on GeM to enable purchase by State Food Testing Laboratories.
The entire catalogue of consumables on GeM portal along with terms and conditions will help the analysts to select the chemicals of the desired grade and other consumables appropriate to the analytical requirement.
The notion behind GeM is to enhance transparency, efficiency and speed in public procurement. It is a one stop marketing with minimal efforts. Besides, it also ensures an up to date user friendly dashboard for buying, selling and monitoring of supplies and payments.
Prominently, it provides tools of e-bidding, reverse e-auction and demand aggregation to help the government achieve the best value for money. It also gives buyers an option to select MSME’s and choose the seller amongst them.
