The FSSAI has on 19 March 2018, notified the Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, Toxins, and Residues) Amendment Regulation, 2018 related to removal of a pesticide banned as per Insecticides Act, 1968. Accordingly, FSSAI has made some changes in the Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, Toxins, and Residues) Regulations, 2011, in regulation RESIDUES (2.3).
In the first instance the following insecticides as well as the entries for the insecticides under ‘Food’ and ‘Tolerance limit mg/kg (ppm)’ have been omitted from the Table given under “Restriction on the use of insecticides” (2.3.1).
- Aldrin, dieldrin (the limits apply to aldrin and dieldrin singly or in any combination and are expressed as dieldrin) and the entries (serial no.1)
- Chlordane (residue to be measured as cis plus trans chlordane)” and the entries relating thereto in columns Serial no.3)
- “D.D.T. (The limits apply to D.D.T., D.D.D., and D.D.E. singly or in any combination) (serial no.4)
- “D.D.T. (singly)” (serial no.5)
- “D.D.D. (singly)” (serial no.6)
- “D.D.E. (singly)” (serial no.7)
- “Diazinon” (serial no.8)
- “Endosulfan (residues are measured and reported as a total of endosulfan A and B and endosulfan-sulfate)” (serial no.12)
- “Endosulfan A” (serial no.13)

In serial number 52, the ‘name of the insecticide’ has been altered

Will be replaced with

The FSSAI has also added the following list of banned insecticides under this regulation category. The following insecticides mentioned in the table below are banned as per the Insecticides Act, 1968 (46 of 1968)
