Through a notification the FSSAI has invited suggestions, views and comments from stakeholders WTO- SPS Committee members within a period of 60 days beginning from 26 April, 2018 on the draft notification related to revised standards for Coffee-chicory mix and TDS (limits of Ca & Mg content) in Packaged drinking water as well as standards for Decaffeinated roasted and ground coffee and Decaffeinated soluble coffee powder.
In the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011, in regulation “BEVERAGES, (Other than Dairy and Fruits & Vegetables based)” (2.10) in the category ‘Coffee’ (2.10.2) the following categories of coffee have been added

1. | Moisture, percent. by mass, Max | 5.0 |
2. | Total Ash, percent. by mass | 3.0 to 6.0 |
3. | Acid-insoluble ash, percent. By
mass, Max |
0.1 |
4. | Water soluble ash, percent. By
mass, min |
65.0 |
5. | Alkalinity of soluble ash in milliliters
of 0.1 N hydrochloric acids per gram of material, percent. by mass, ml |
3.5 to 5.0 |
- DECAFFEINATED SOLUBLE COFFEE POWDER
Decaffeinated soluble coffee powder means coffee powder obtained from freshly roasted and ground pure coffee beans from which most of the caffeine has been removed.
